working principle
Tungsten is also called additive, or flux.
Because the role of additives is not only melting aid, but also heating, adjusting the acidity and alkalinity of medium, stirring, catalysis, stabilizing combustion, anti-interference and so on.
Tungsten is a refractory metal with a melting point of 3380 ℃. It is used as an additive because tungsten is easy to be oxidized. Tungsten begins to oxidize and release a lot of heat when oxygenated at 650 ℃, which has the characteristics of high calorific value and fast reaction speed.
The oxidation product tungsten trioxide is an acidic oxide with loose volume. Its formation is conducive to the release of CO2 and SO2. It will not form a covering layer to cover the sample.
Tungsten trioxide sublimates significantly above 900 ℃. Due to the escape of tungsten trioxide, the diffusion rate of carbon and sulfur is increased, so that the carbon and sulfur in the sample are fully oxidized.
After the volatilized tungsten trioxide leaves the molten pool, it is converted into solid phase at 700 ~ 800 ℃ and covered on the remaining Fe2O3 in the pipeline to prevent the adsorption of sulfur by the pipeline.
The blank value of tungsten is very low, which can be used for the determination of low carbon and low sulfur. Generally, tungsten tin is used in combination as an additive, and the main function of tin is to aid melting, so as to reduce the impact caused by the insufficient melting aid of tungsten.
For non-magnetic materials, pure iron should be added.
